Rectangular alms purse

Alms purses (aumônières) appear over a long period of the Middle Ages, from the 12th to the 15th century.
The most common form is rectangular, with 2 drawstrings running through the weave of the fabric.
Pompoms very often decorate the corners and the ends of the cords.
In the 13th century they are unisex and are luxury items. They become more commonly worn by women in the 14th century.
They are most often worn between the inner and outer dress, which is why they are often hidden in depictions.
